Seth Exercises

Hi All,
Some of you have seen this before and some haven't.... This is from Seth's first book, Seth Speaks, a sort of intro to consciousness expansion. I will probably post a couple exercises every week or so to explore. I think it would be interesting to get impressions from 'newbies' as well as the folks who read this stuff 30 years ago. (and those in-between.) Any takers? :)

I'll break the ice. :) I read this book for the first time four years ago. I had picked up an old ratty copy of the first printing at the library (yeah the one with the 'spooky' cover.) The material resonated as true for me but seemed really 'far out there'. It catapulted me into explorations online and through other books. Now reading through it for the second time, not only am I getting a lot more out of it, but many of the 'far out' concepts are things I've experienced/ integrated throughout my journey— they are 'a given' now, normal. This has made room for further exploration, 'cause it seems with this the more I explore, the more I find there's more to explore. :)

Exercises p. 44, 51, 54 (page numbers refer to the new printing of the book)
If you don't have the book, Seth quotations and exercises can be found online at
http://www.nirvikalpa.com/content.php?page=seth
At last check the search feature didn't work, but going straight to the quotes and exercises and then scrolling down to the correct book still worked.

This is a link to a new movie called WHAT THE #$*! DO WE KNOW?!

from the website:

Science, Spirituality, Humor and a New Paradigm: "What the #$BLEEP*! Do We Know!?" is a wake-up call to the hundreds of thousands of people who are searching for a voice somewhere in this fragmented culture who have been awaiting a catalyst.
It has arrived!
This bold, funny, unique work goes to the heart of the human dilemma. It challenges and lays waste the old Paradigms of thought and places responsibility squarely where it belongs— on individual human consciousness.
?What the #$BLEEP*! Do We Know!?? is a unique cinematic creation — really three films in one, interwoven like a DNA helix, into an original tapestry.
It's a documentary. It's a story. It has mind-blowing special effects. These three elements combine to bring about a film experience that will rock your mind and lift your soul! It's a new genre about a New Worldview for a new audience.
This outrageous film plunges you into a world where quantum uncertainty is demonstrated — where neurological processes, and perceptual shifts are engaged and lived by its protagonist — where everything is alive, and reality is changed by every thought.

Conscious Creation website

This is the address for a website called Conscious Creation. It is owned/ operated by John and Kristen, two people who, a few years ago, decided that running the treadmill for the rat race was not where they wanted to be. They met through a Seth group and now live together in California.

Kristen Fox is an artist and writer— some of you may have seen me running around in t-shirts that were designed by her, that I ordered through her online store. (The postcards I handed out at the CwG meeting were her design/ creation.) John McNally is a brilliant fiction writer and also keeps a blog with related news tidbits and other interesting items on it.

Together they created the Conscious Creation website, which has a plethora of information including a section on Reality Creation 101, a magazine-like Journal, a big collection of channeled information (a collaboration between Kristen and a friend of hers, Becky), essays, stories, email lists, free e-cards, a store with nifty CC-related stuff, and more.
http://www.consciouscreation.com/

John and Kristen have always been supportive and friendly to me and I have enjoyed their sharings, insight and input on their site and their lists for three or four years now. They also have links from the CC site to their other endeavors, two being Kristen's art site and John's fiction site. I like both of them but John's Mind Altering Fiction stories are so great-- I just love them. "The Hearing of Rufus Ridiculous" is my favorite. In case you don't see the link on the page, that one can be found at http://www.mindalteringfiction.com/
enjoy :)

Bashar, "Staying in the Moment" excerpt:

"You are awakening again from your deep, deep sleep of forgetfulness and you are exploring realms of consciousness and many other new ideas that are really old ideas, but on a broader scale, in a broader sense, because you are waking up from the dream of forgetfulness into the dream of remembrance.

All it takes is being in the now, living your joy, following your dreams, acting upon them, being your true self and everything will begin to unfold in a natural, positive, creative, and loving way, because it can only be a reflection of what you choose yourself to be.

Remember, physical reality is but a reflection of your idea of yourself. There is nothing outside you— there is no outside— it is all inside, but it is a reflection back to you, of yourself, of your state of being, of what you believe is most possible for you, or what you might fear is most possible for you, whatever the strongest driving force— the strongest e-motion is, energy-motion— is what the reflection will bounce back to you."

from Richard Bach, Illusions; The Adventures of a Reluctant Messiah:

Choose a different past? Literally or figuratively or how did it mean? "I think my mind just boggled, Don. I don't know how I could possibly learn this stuff."

"Practice. A little theory and a lot of practice," he said. "Take you about a week and a half."

"A week and a half."

"Yeah. Believe you know all the answers, and you know all the answers. Believe you're a master, and you are."

"I never said I wanted to be any master."

"That's right," he said, "You didn't."

But I kept the handbook, and he never asked for it back.

...

Imagine
the universe beautiful
and just and
perfect,

the handbook said to me once.

Then be sure of one thing:
the Is has imagined it
quite a bit better
than you have.

Excerpts from Seth, The Magical Approach (Jane Roberts) Session One
Assembly-Line Time Versus Natural, Creative Time.
The Rational Mind Versus the Artistic Mind.

"...The natural person is indeed the magical person.... All of this involves relating to reality in a more natural, and therefore magical, fashion. There is certainly a kind of natural physical time in your experience, and in the experience of any physical creature.... To this natural rhythm you have added the idea of clocks, moments and hours and so forth.... Such a cultural time works well overall for the the civilization that concentrates upon partialities, bits and pieces, assembly lines, promptness of appointments, and so forth. It fits and industrialized society as you understand it.

The time that any artistic creator is involved with follows earth's own time, however.... Particularly if you want to make a living at your art, you fall into the frame of mind in which you think "every moment is valuable" — but what you mean is that each minute must be a minute of production. But each moment must be valuable in itself, whatever you do with it....

There is much material here that I will give you, because it is important that you understand the different ways of relating to reality, and how those ways create the experienced events.

...the "magical approach" means that you actually change your methods of dealing with problems, achieving goals, and satisfying means. You change over to the methods of the natural person. I use the word "methods" because you understand it, but actually we are speaking about an approach to life, a magical or natural approach to life that is man's version of the animal's natural instinctive behavior in the universe. That approach does indeed fly in direct contradiction to the learned methods you have been taught.

...Assembly-line time does not really value time— only as time can be used for definite prescribed purposes. In that framework, to enjoy time becomes a weakness or a vice.... With creative people strongly gifted, as in your cases, the natural person is very prominent, no matter what you do. It therefore strongly resents any basically meaningless constraints placed about its experience. It knows, for example, how to enjoy each day, how to collect creative insights from each and every encounter, how to enrich itself physically....

True creativity comes from enjoying the moments, which then fulfill themselves, and a part of the creative process is indeed the art of relaxation, the letting go, for that triggers magical activity....

The old beliefs, of course, and the rational approach, are everywhere reinforced, and so it does indeed have a great weight. The magical approach has far greater weight, if you use it and allow yourselves to operate in that fashion, for it has the weight of your basic natural orientation." ....

(from Session Three)
"The magical approach takes it for granted, in the simplest terms, that the life of any individual will fulfill itself, will develop and mature, that the environment and the individual are uniquely suited to work together. ...those are the beliefs (if you will) of each cell. They are imprinted on each chromosome, in each atom. They provide the built-in faith that pervades each living creature, each snail, each hair on your head. ...Each cell believes in a better tomorrow (quietly, with amusement). I am, I admit, personifying our cell here, but the statement has a firm truth. ...it knows it lives beyond its death...."

Abraham Explains True Freedom:

(A guest asks about dealing with difficult visits with her mother, and how to 'guard herself from all that negativity'.)

Abraham: As you are understanding that that which you are most wanting to understand is to be 'allower' and that, being 'allower' will bring you absolute freedom then, you will be able to 'allow' HER, even in her not 'allowing' of YOU!

As she is speaking of those things which you are not wanting — disregard them! That is not really the problem. The warning bells ring loudest when she is concerned about what you are doing. You are not doing that which she thinks you should do! But when you are able to say, "It is alright that you feel that way! I understand," and really MEAN it, then you will be free of the negative emotion that comes forth under these conditions, you see.

It is easiest to remove yourself physically and, if you did not have the intent of wanting family harmony, she would have been gone from your life a long time ago, you see? But as you have this other intention, you are putting yourself in a position where you must consciously make the decision that you will not participate in that which brings forth negative emotion. Now, that does not mean that you can bandage her mouth shut! For that is outside of your creative license but...you can bandage your own ears shut, you see. You can stop hearing that which upsets you — even though you hear the words! — when you are willing to say, "It is alright. I hear what you say but, this is what I KNOW to be." Then those feelings will not be so intense within you — and you will be free!

FREEDOM COMES WHEN YOU ARE ABLE TO BE AS YOU ARE, AND TO ALLOW OTHERS TO BE AS THEY ARE!

Beth note 3/4/2008:
Truly valuing own self, preferences and perspectives, allows for valuing all— can acknowledge other perspectives as also valid (no judgment) while not necessarily choosing those for self (discernment). Resistance comes from not valuing self.

~

This is a quotation from a Bashar session called "The Neighborhood", 2-17-87; his response to a question about a body challenge:

Bashar: "Even some of your own medical practitioners are now beginning to realize the following idea: Every single thought you have literally, physically, reorganizes the neurological pathways in your physical brain. Every moment of time, you do not have the same brain— literally, physically. ... Now, your physical brain is responsible in that sense for, shall we say, monitoring the physiological structure of your body. The only thing that would create there to be a seeming "block" between your understanding that your thoughts alter physical reality would be if you have been taught to buy into a definition that says somehow alteration of your physical structure is more difficult than simply having a new thought, and allowing your physical body to take that form.

This is what many of you have been taught— that physical reality is fixed and that your thoughts are simply ethereal ideas that do not really have a great effect upon physical material, but you are beginning to realize just the opposite. In fact, you are beginning to realize that physical material absolutely has no structure without the definitions of your thoughts.

So, one thing that may be able to begin to assist you is to really, as you say, get a handle on the idea that you're changing physically every moment anyway— literally, physically, every single moment. Once you can allow that to inspire you, perhaps you can then redirect the idea of that physical change exactly where you want it to be...."

Bashar goes on to describe the idea of acting as if the change has already occurred, diving into anything seen as a block, the feeling of transforming the cells throughout the body, and lots of other cool stuff... :)

Abraham: What the feeling of worthiness means

Every subject is two subjects. There is that which is wanted on one end of the stick and that which is not wanted on the other end of the stick, and you can tell which end of the stick of every subject is activated within you by the way it feels to you. If it feels good, you're in alignment with well being. If it feels less than good, you're not.

The way you feel about you is everything. The way you feel about you is everything. We know it feels trite. The word worthiness has been bandied around in your physical time-space reality for a long time and many of you are just flat out tired of talking about it because you want to feel worthy, you're just not all that sure what it means. And we want to say to you that what the feeling of worthiness means is, "I know that good abounds and I expect that it will come to me." That's what worthy means. Worthy means, "I get what I choose." Worthy means, "Law of attraction is fair." Worthy means, "I'm offering a vibration, Source knows the vibration, everything is vibrating, law of attraction will bring to me things that match the vibration that I'm offering."

But worthy means, "I understand that I come forth from the Source of goodness, from the Source of well-being. No matter what I have done and no matter what anybody else thinks about what I have done, I have done nothing to thwart my relationship with the stream other than what I am doing vibrationally that thwarts the stream." In other words, no one outside of you; there is not a God, there is not a Source, no one is looking at you and saying, "Yes, I see that in the past you did this and this and this and therefore you will be deprived of well-being in response to those actions." There is none of that. There is none of that.

Seth Exercises, Part 2:

(book: Seth Speaks) page 77:
You can find out what the soul is now, therefore. It is not something waiting for you at your death, nor is it something you must save or redeem, and it is also something that you cannot lose. The term, 'to lose or save your soul', has been grossly misinterpreted and distorted, for it is the part of you that is indeed indestructible. We will go into this particular matter in a portion of the book dealing with religion and the god concept.

Your own personality as you know it, that portion of you that you consider most precious, most uniquely you, will also never be destroyed or lost. It is a portion of the soul. It will not be gobbled by the soul, nor erased by it, nor subjugated by it; nor on the other hand can it ever be separated. It is, nevertheless, only one aspect of your soul. Your individuality, in whatever way you want to think of it, continues to exist in your terms.

It continues to grow and develop, but its growth and development is highly dependent upon its realization that while it is distinct and individual, it is also but one manifestation of the soul. To the extent that it realizes this, it learns to unfold in creativity, and to use those abilities that lie inherent within it.

Now unfortunately, it would be much easier simply to tell you that your individuality continues to exist, and let it go at that. While this would make a fairly reasonable parable, it has been told in that particular way before, and there are dangers in the very simplicity of the tale. The truth is that the personality you are now and the personality that you have been and will be - in the terms in which you understand time - all of these personalities are manifestations of the soul, of your soul.

Your soul therefore - the soul that you are - the soul that you are part of - that soul is a far more creative and miraculous phenomenon than you previously supposed. And when this is not clearly understood, and when the concept is watered down for simplicity's sake, as mentioned earlier, then the intense vitality of the soul can never be understood. Your soul, therefore, possesses the wisdom, information, and knowledge that is part of the experience of all these other personalities; and you have within yourselves access to this information, but only if you realize the true nature of your reality. Let me emphasize again that these personalities exist independently within and are a part of the soul, and each of them are free to create and develop.

There is however an inner communication, and the knowledge of one is available to any - not after physical death, but now in your present moment. Now the soul itself, as mentioned earlier, is not static. It grows and develops even through the experience of those personalities that compose it, and it is, to put it as simply as possible, more than the sum of its parts.

Now, there are no closed systems in reality. In your physical system the nature of your perceptions limits your idea of reality to some extent, because you purposely decide to focus within a given 'locale.' But basically speaking, consciousness can never be a closed system, and all barriers of such a nature are illusion. Therefore the soul itself is not a closed system. When you consider the soul, however, you usually think of it in such a light - unchanging, a psychic or spiritual citadel. But citadels not only keep out invaders, they also prevent expansion and development.

There are many matters here very difficult to express in words, for you are so afraid for your sense of identity that you resist the idea that the soul, for example, is an open spiritual system, a powerhouse of creativity that shoots out in all directions - and yet this is indeed the case.

I tell you this, and at the same time remind you that your present personality is never lost. Now another word for the soul is entity. You see it is not a simple matter of giving you a definition of a soul or entity, for even to have a glimpse in logical terms you would have to understand it in spiritual, psychic, and electromagnetic terms, and understand the basic nature of consciousness and action as well. But you can intuitively discover the nature of the soul or entity, and in many ways intuitive knowledge is superior to any other kind.

One prerequisite for such an intuitive understanding of the soul is the desire to achieve it. If the desire is strong enough, then you will be automatically led to experiences that will result in vivid, unmistakable subjective knowledge. There are methods that will enable you to do this, and I will give you some toward the end of this book. For now, here is one quite effective but simple exercise.

Close your eyes after having read this chapter to this point, and try to sense within yourself the source of power from which your own breathing and life-forces come. Some of you will do this successfully at your first try. Others may take longer. When you feel within yourself this source, then try to sense this power flow outward through your entire physical being, through the fingertips and toes, through the pores of your body, all directions, with yourself as center. Imagine the rays undiminished, reaching then through the foliage and clouds above, through the center of the earth below, extending even to the farthest reaches of the universe.

Now I do not mean this to be merely a symbolic exercise, for though it may begin with imagination, it is based upon fact, and emanations from your consciousness and the creativity of your soul do indeed reach outward in that manner. The exercise will give you some idea of the true nature, creativity, and vitality of the soul from which you can draw your own energy and of which you are an individual and unique portion.

...Now: this discussion is not meant to be an esoteric presentation with little practical meaning in your daily lives. The fact is that while you hold limited concepts of your own reality, then you cannot practically take advantage of many abilities that are your own; and while you have a limited concept of the soul, then to some extent you cut yourself off from the source of your own being and creativity.

pp 82-83:
"Physical existence is one way in which the soul chooses to experience its own actuality. The soul, in other words, has created a world for you to inhabit, to change-- a complete sphere of activity in which new developments and indeed new forms of consciousness can emerge.

In a matter of speaking, you continually create your soul as it continually creates you.

...The soul is not frightened for its identity. It is sure of itself. It never seeks. It is not afraid of being overwhelmed by experience or perception. If you had a more thorough understanding of the nature of identity, you would not, for example, fear telepathy, for behind this concern is the worry that your identity will be swept away by the suggestions or thoughts of others.

No psychological system is closed, no consciousness is closed, regardless of any appearances to the contrary within your own system."

(Beth note 4-3-8: I'm including this ^ long excerpt here because it was a very important opening for people dealing with many traditional dogmas.. people who had been so entrained in fear that just the idea of available channeled information was a scary concept, in itself. I believe it helped others get past this just as it helped me get beyond many of those kinds of fears. If you enjoy/ resonate with it get the book!)

Pssst... Hey, gorgeous... Beth...

Want to know a secret?

Everything in your life is a symbol.

A reflection. A clue. A reminder.

Of what you understand, and of what you don't, made manifest.

Look to the beauty for truth. And to what hurts, for its beauty.

Your biggest fan,
    The Universe

Oh, yes indeed, Beth, life is fair. Though this can't be seen from too close, in terms of either time, or space. As fair as it is beautiful.
